CAST OF CHARACTERS

Hamlet - the son of Gertrude and Old Hamlet, and nephew to the new king.
Claudius - the newly crowned King of Denmark.
Gertrude - the Queen of Denmark and Hamlet’s mother.
Ghost - the ghost of Old Hamlet, the former King of Denmark, and Hamlet’s father.
Polonius - Lord Chamberlain.
Laertes - son of Polonius.
Ophelia - daughter of Polonius.
Horatio - trusted friend of Hamlet.
Rosencrantz - Courtier.
Guildenstern - Courtier.
Ensemble #1 - Francisco (soldier), Player Queen, Osric (courtier).
Ensemble #2 - Marcellus (courtier), Player King, Priest.
Ensemble #3 - Barnardo (courtier), First Player, Gravedigger.

*Depending on casting, some actors may play multiple roles in addition to the ensemble, with the exception of Hamlet.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The first round of auditions will be held virtually. Please prepare and record a 1–2 minute Shakespearean monologue and submit your video between August 28 and September 11.

    Selected performers may be invited to in-person callbacks*, which will be September 13 at 11:30am-2:30pm at the Chapel Hill Public Library.

    *If you are unable to attend callbacks, you will still be considered for casting. Likewise, not receiving a callback invitation does not necessarily mean you will not be cast.

  • Rehearsals will take place between September 15th - November 29th* .
    Rehearsals will be both virtual and in person, with in person rehearsals likely taking place in Chapel Hill/Hillsborough area.

    Tech week will be November 30th - December 3rd at the venue in Chapel Hill.

    *No rehearsal November 25 - 27th

  • Hamlet: Prince of Denmark will be performed at the Honeysuckle Tea House in Chapel Hill, NC on December 4 - 6th and December 11 - 13th in their enclosed, heated pavilion*.

    *Please note that portions of this show may require actors/crew to be outdoors.

  • Each performer will receive a $100 stipend.

  • We will be posting a PRODUCTION TEAM submission form. Decisions about the production team will be made following casting.

  • The SUBMISSION FORM for Hamlet: Prince of Denmark auditions will go live AUGUST 28th
